About

The BMW 1-Series was introduced in May 2004 as a three- or five-door hatchback and, despite the impression given by the tailgate/boot lid badges (118i, 116d, etc), was available with a choice of 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines, and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. In March 2007 a new range of efficient diesel engines, and direct-injection petrol engines was introduced, as well as a mild facelift. All engines are derived from the well-proven engines which have appeared in many BMW vehicles. Both manual and automatic transmissions are available. Provided that regular servicing is carried out, the BMW 1-Series should prove reliable and very economical.
