Gallery of Steam
This book is not for serious historians, though even they might enjoy looking at the pictures in relaxing moments. There are a few pages covering foreign countries, mostly in Asia, where steam locomotives were still operating on commercial services in the first decade of the 21st century. Other than that, it’s all about preserved trains.
The person who selected the pictures is very likely a photographer himself, as he has put an emphasis on photographic effects that are of particular appeal to other photographers – sunrise, sunset, snow scenes, etc. Personally, I’m not a photographer, and while I can appreciate the occasional picture of a sunset with the train reduced to a shadow, one such picture looks very much like another to a non-photographer.
Other than that, there are a lot of great pictures here, albeit limited to preservation and foreign services.
